Then read “It is not too late to achieve global vaccine equity” (https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj-2022-070650) by Gavin Yamey, et al, and “Ending the covid-19 pandemic means helping countries to catch up with vaccination, not giving up” (https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj.o786) by Seth Berkley. Both were recently published this March in The BMJ (British Medical Journal).
Then answer the following:
1. Based on the reading, briefly describe the continued threat of covid-19 for lower middle income countries.
2. To what extend do high income countries have a duty to ensure that people in low income countries have access to the vaccine? Relate your answer to the recommendations made in the two articles.
3. Then provide support for your answer. Summarize one of the theories of distributive justice you read about last week (i.e., a utilitarian, libertarian, communitarian, contractarian (Rawlsian), or egalitarian theory of justice) and utilize the theory to support your position. (You may also support your position in other ways than by appeal to a theory of justice.)
4. As an application of your general position (in 3) and your supporting rationale (in 4), propose at least one concrete solution or action that you think high income countries should take in response to global vaccine inequity.
Here are some additional readings to consult on this topic this week:

The swift development of effective vaccines against COVID-19 was an unprecedented scientific achievement. But production challenges, vaccine nationalism, and omicron and other variants have all presented hurdles.

For this final project, you will have the opportunity to integrate everything th

For this final project, you will have the opportunity to integrate everything that has been covered this term and apply it to a standards war that is currently underway.
Step 1. What have you learned in this course?
Review the learning objectives for each of the course modules and the lessons located at the end of the chapters in Information Rules to help you develop the list of issues to look for. Do this before you begin your research. You will need to be thinking like an economist as you do your research on the autonomous vehicle ecosystem.
Step 2. Gather information
What are the various components of the AV ecosystem?
Think about the cars: what makes them autonomous? What’s fixed and what can be changed (and how)?
Think beyond the vehicles. What changes need to be made to infrastructure? Laws? Insurance?
Who are the various players/stakeholders? What power do they have?
Step 3. Report, Analyze, Relate to Readings
Report what you found and interpret your findings based on the economic concepts and ideas covered in this course.
Describe the current situation. You should include a brief description of a few of the major contenders in the market.
Are concepts from previous modules applicable? If so, be sure to include that analysis.
Analyze and explain the strategies being used by the various contenders using the frameworks developed in Shapiro and Varian.
Speculate about how this standards war might be resolved. Use economic theory and concepts to justify your prediction. Obviously, there’s no right or wrong answer to your prediction, so this final paper will be evaluated on the basis of how well you:
research and explain the products being developed
research the players and their stake in these products
analyze the alliances and their strategies
base your conclusion on your analysis and evidence
tie your analysis and conclusions to the readings
Notes about submissions:
Students frequently ask me how long this assignment should be—it depends on your writing style, but the range for most students will be five to ten pages. What I’m looking for is an analysis in which you draw conclusions, based on your observations and supported by the economic readings.
Be sure to cite your sources (including readings and classmates) if you use any ideas from others (whether you’re directly quoting them or not).
Make sure that your name is on your paper someplace!
Assignments should be single-spaced and left justified (both are the default settings).
Please make sure all information and instructions are correctly followed and no plagiarism.
And please use the textbook Information Rules by Carl Shapiro and Hal R. Varian also answer to the questions provided. Do not use a lot of sources mainly use the textbook as a source

Linda Chen is a Senior VP for Client Management at Rippon and Morgan, a boutique

Linda Chen is a Senior VP for Client Management at Rippon and Morgan, a boutique investment bank that provides securities underwriting and advisory services for major corporations, both public and private. Ms. Chen oversees dozens of investment bankers who work with clients to develop initial public offering (IPO) strategies, merger and acquisition plans and corporate bond covenants, among other services. Her team also works closely with another team of broker-dealers at Rippon to buy and sell securities associated with the work her team does on behalf of their corporate clients.
The work Ms. Chen performs with Rippon reflects a high level of expertise that is recognized not only in the financial services industry, but also by policy makers and university think tanks. She understands capital markets very well and has taken a very careful approach to understanding companies across different industries.
As a result of this recognition, Ms. Chen has served on the Board of Trustees of a regional, private university, the University of the Northwest for seven years. She is now Chair of the Board’s Endowment Subcommittee, which makes decisions about investment strategies for the University’s endowment. Historically, the University has a well-diversified portfolio of investments, across different asset classes, industries and geographic locations. The University has taken a relatively passive approach to investing compared to other universities, relying extensively on the direction provided by an outside asset manager that Ms. Chen trusts. Ms. Chen nonetheless reviews the work of the asset manager regularly and is, on some occasions, involved in developing joint investment recommendations.
Given Chen’s roles as an investment banker and trustee, why would someone reasonably think that Linda is involved in a conflict of interest? Describe and explain why she is involved in a conflict of interest and what type of conflict she’s in. What can be done to respond to and manage this conflict of interest? Provide at least two concrete steps that Linda, the University or Rippon and Morgan could do to effectively and responsibly manage this conflict of interest.
In an short essay of 3 to 4 pages provide a critical response to these questions. In your answer you should draw upon the relevant assigned readings, as well as any other class readings you find appropriate. In your answer should be focused, clear and precise, using examples or specific illustrations where appropriate.

Select from one of the abortion narratives (https://www.salon.com/2007/07/02/mississippi_abortions/) and connect it to one of the following approaches to moral personhood or abortion as defined in Greasley: sex equality, gradualism, punctualism, or Greasley’s modified gradualism. The first part of your essay is an elaboration/summary of that approach (with references to the text). The bulk of your essay is an analysis of the rightness and the wrongness of the decision in the narrative in light of the approach to moral personhood you selected. Be sure to include the following:
Elaborate on those elements of the narrative where the people involved (including the fetus) do or do not have moral rights stemming from their status as a person and if, when, and/or how they were wronged and/or harmed or could have been wronged and/or harmed.
Based on the criteria for personhood you selected, was the outcome right or wrong (explaining how and why, with higher grades for correct appeals to (and application of) approaches to moral and ethical decision making covered earlier in the semester). Alternatively, do you think (and why do you think) a different resolution would have been better (defining what you mean by better).
Include a works cited section at the end of your essay. Use MLA style guidelines to format your paper and citations.
